Dungeness, in Kent on England's South coast, is the largest area of open shingle in Europe. Despite its bleak appearance this headland actually represents a delicate ecosystem and is a designated SSSI or Site of Special Scientific Interest. It is overshadowed by the presence of 2 nuclear power stations, the older Dungeness A Magnox station and the newer Dungeness B AGR ( Advanced Gas-Cooled Reactor ).
